The City approved the existing EIR for the Belmont Pool Project and will send the report on to the Coast Commission.
However, two councilmen expressed concerns about the public vetting process and the ability for youth to access the pool given the city’s limited transportation infrastructure.
Some citizens oppose the proposed location due the possibility of rising sea levels in the future.
The original pool closed in 2013 due to seismic structural deficiencies. The new $100 project will provide “an indoor and outdoor olympic pool with diving facilities, a moveable floor, a translucent bubble dome serving as a roof and the capacity to host thousands of spectators for large swim meets.”
